"Unfortunately, due to circumstances outside of our control, posed to the current COVID-19 health crisis, the parade has been postponed by the city of New Haven under the recommendation [of] the Governor's office," wrote organizers on their website. "The parade will be rescheduled, please stay tuned for more information."
The Central Connecticut Celtic Cultural Committee, which organizes Hartford's St. Patrick's Day Parade, has also canceled their procession. Instead, if conditions allow, the group plans to host a "Halfway to Saint Patrick's Day" celebration in the fall of 2021, according to reporting by the Hartford Courant.
“This is the right and responsible decision, but it’s also one more blow to downtown restaurants and bars that have been so hard hit," said Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin in a statement about the cancellation. "Those restaurants urgently need relief, whether from the federal government or the state – so they can be around when we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in 2022 with the biggest parade yet.”
